Why Composting Matters
Crazy fact comin’ at ya... Did you know 80 billion pounds of food is thrown away each year in the US alone? When food waste goes to landfill it creates methane - a greenhouse gas that is far more potent than CO2 and y’all know our climate doesn’t need more of that.
By composting your food waste in your home you can help close the loop and return food waste back to mama Earth to become healthy soil! If you're new to composting, you can easily store your food scraps in the freezer and contribute to a backyard garden compost setup. You can also check to see if your city offers curbside pickup, search for drop off locations near you, or even ask around at your local farmer’s market- most vendors can happily take those scraps off your hands.
Composting is a completely freeee way to start giving back to our environment but if you’re looking for somethin’ pretty to sit on your counter we’ve got a super chic white compost bin for you! We just recommend emptying your counter composter jusssst before it’s full (you don’t want it to reach the top and touch the filter) to avoid smells and flies.
Here’s a quickie guide to YAYs and NAYs when it comes to compost - but if you’re ever unsure, a quick google search will quickly answer any uncertainties.
