Meet the Maker: Shayne of Long Acre Ceramics
We’re so excited to introduce you to Shayne of Long Acre Ceramics, the artist behind our signature spouted matcha bowl and mug that you all love! Here’s a little glimpse into Shayne’s life as a small-batch ceramicist based here in Austin, TX.
Each piece is handmade by Shayne in her backyard studio, picked up in Jules’ lil Honda Fit named Rhonda, packaged by Jules + Caitlin in 100% backyard compostable materials (made of recycled paper) and shipped off via USPS!
Your support means the world to us, truly. Please keep on sharing your matcha mornings with us and tag @thehomebodies + @longacreceramics!
Take us back to the beginning, what inspired you to get into ceramics?
I have always admired ceramic work and when the opportunity to take a class about 5 years ago arose, I jumped in. I had never felt very “artistic” in my life but something about this form just clicked with me. It has become a space for me to de-stress and meditate and I’m so glad to be able to share what I do with my community.
Tell us a little bit about your process and how you get inspired.
I have a very modern and simple aesthetic. I am inspired by art and things that are calming and clean. I try to use calm color palettes and clean lines that can be part of a space without being too obtrusive. Also, a lot of the items that I make are out of necessity for myself such as planters, incense holders, and drinkware.
Do you have any meaningful rituals that bring you joy?
I always make sure that I have had a cup of tea or matcha before I leave the house for work in the morning. It makes me feel like I have accomplished something for the day. If I have time, I love to sit out on my back porch with my husband and dog and watch the critters on our property stirring as well such as owls, foxes, and birds.
What does ‘homebody’ mean to you?
As an introvert, I have always considered myself a homebody. I try to create a home space that brings me joy and is a place to recharge. That includes surrounding myself with things that bring me calm and I try to create pieces with ceramics that do the same for others.
Keep up with Shayne on the 'gram @longacreceramics & check out her shop on Etsy!
